Tom 64
came out in 1984 on the Commodore 64, 2 years before Tom Thumb C16.
As you can see from the second screen shot Brigitte Gertz
composed the music as she did with Summer and Winter Events and
the game is copyright to Kingsoft where many of the best C16/Plus4
games came from.
I can only tell you about Tom 64
from what I've played so far. There are 6 different pyramids in
total and before you start playing your presented with a map
of the each pyramid. This map showing Keys and monsters. The
game it self looks like Tom Thumb in many ways, But what you have
to remember is this game was released 2 years before it's
C16/Plus4 brother and the gap is a big jump in terms of 8bit
programming. There's no cool animation of Tom going up ladders
like the C16 version as he faces head on and steps up and down so
it can feel a little basic over Tom Thumb. As with the GFX
colours they look lame in comparison to Udo's later C16
classic. Jumping with Tom is a little tricky, but I feel this
add's to the game play. Over all Tom 64 is a Classic. Its very
hard to master as you will have to learn the game to find out
which way Tom can go to collect the keys. Tom will also die if he
falls to far and lands on the floor, but will live if he lands
on a platform. Tom also has some sort of lazer / stick and I
have'nt worked out what it's ment for as yet. "Tom Thumb never
had a Lazer" ;-). It's amazing what Udo did with 16k of
memory and gave us one of the best 8bit platform games ever to
the C16/Plus4, but dont get me wrong. Tom 64 is a good game in it's own way. :-)
